Why I Finally Fell in Love with Satin

There was a time when I would immediately say no to satin.

Not because I disliked the idea of it, but because the satin I had always known never felt right to me. It was often overly shiny, too delicate in the wrong way, and difficult to wear without feeling overdressed. It never felt like something I would genuinely reach for in my everyday wardrobe.

So when I first walked into a fabric store looking for satin, I was almost hesitant to ask for it.

I had already convinced myself that it probably wasn’t the direction I wanted to take.

Then I came across a completely different quality.

It had weight. It draped beautifully. It reflected light softly instead of loudly. For the first time, satin didn’t feel intimidating or overly precious—it simply felt effortless.

That fabric completely changed my perspective.

From that moment, I knew I didn’t just want to create a satin piece. I wanted to create the satin set I had personally been searching for for years.

Something I could wear on an ordinary Tuesday morning, on vacation, for dinner, to the airport, or on a warm summer evening. Relaxed enough to feel comfortable, yet elevated enough to never feel underdressed.

That vision became our Satin Halter Top and Satin Relaxed Pants.

Ironically, since launching them, I’ve barely taken them off.

When we first designed the collection, black naturally came first.

I’ve always gravitated towards black. It’s timeless, effortless, and somehow always feels like home.

But after wearing the set almost every day, I realised something.

A capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to mean colourless.

Sometimes all it needs is one unexpected shade that makes you feel different without changing who you are.

That’s why we introduced more colours.

Our blue satin set quickly became one of our most-loved pieces, and watching it become a bestseller has been incredibly rewarding. It encouraged so many women—including myself—to embrace a little more colour while still feeling like themselves.

For our London pop-up, we created a powder pink edition exclusively for the event. Seeing how warmly it was received reminded me that every city connects with a collection in its own unique way.

Black and white remain the foundation of my wardrobe.

Blue became the surprise.

Pink became London’s colour.

Looking back, it’s funny to think that the fabric I once thought I’d never design with has become one of the collections I wear the most.

I suppose that’s one of my favourite things about creating at Ansha.

Sometimes the pieces that transform your wardrobe are the ones you never expected to make.

And those are usually the ones that stay with you the longest.
